Season 1 is so different from the rest of the seasons, and I don't watch it too often because the difference is so jarring. I'm not saying it isn't a good season (although it's not as good as many seasons that would come after it), but the animation, the voices, the characters...they're not even close to what they would be only two seasons from then. For these reasons, I have to be in a certain frame of mind in order to watch season 1, and I can't really just watch one episode from that season and then go back to a more recent one; I have to watch a few episodes from the season in order to get used to it again.

The colouring was also off in some scenes, which apparently was the result of it being too expensive to use the originally intended colours for some things. Season 2 is where I really got hooked on it.

I can understand this completely so I get it when people have this vibe about the first season because they were finding their feet at this point. For me though I think I'm in the minority cause I absolutely adore the first season and find myself watching it a lot. I kinda like the raw feel of the earlier seasons and the authentic feel of it, I also kind of like the mistakes and things within the season too because for me that kinda makes that season special too, it's hard to explain really. I also feel that although the characters absolutely developed in the second and third season etc.. I think they really captured a lot of sides of the characters in the first season which introduced us to them (if of course we watched the first season first). I think 'Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire' was so well done as an introductory episode to The Simpsons where it captured all sides of the characters, specially Homer with his situation about getting the job and Santa's Little Helper. Same with Patty & Selma how is introduced them with Homer too and I also feel that they had some great episodes written too, Babysitter Bandit I feel is kinda underrated. So yeah, where I do feel like I'm minority for it I do have a real special soft spot for the first season, I like the raw feel of it and that's kinda special for me I completely understand though where people can't really get into it as much, so it makes a lot of sense really

A lot of fans have complained about how clean the new animation looks, and though I'm sort of impartial to it, I do like the older quirky style of earlier animation in the series although the HD stuff has more consistency in how the secondary characters are drawn.

I have no problem with the animation in the newer seasons. Season 1 definitely has unique animation, but I like the clean-cut style they have now. A lot of people consider it dull and lifeless, but I appreciate the consistency they have now with the character drawings. Sometimes the lack of consistency bothered me a bit. You can't really see the quirks of individual animators anymore, and there aren't many "twister mouths" nowadays, which a lot of fans seem to go gaga over, but I don't mind.

I don't really mind either style, there are pros and cons to each style, but I guess it's largely up to individual preferences as well. I think too that the newer style of animation is keeping the show afloat financially; hand drawing/hand colouring each individual cell in the traditional animation can be a meticulous and costly process and with the newer episodes getting lower ratings, the digital animation might be what keeps it in production, so I'm grateful for it. I don't want to see The Simpsons cancelled anytime soon.

I think that's what's kinda good about the Tracy Ullman shorts too, I mean I never saw them until ages after but if those shorts were animated in the animation that we see today they probably wouldn't be the same, I dunno haha

Season 2 is where I really got hooked on it. I didnt realise they changed Burns' voice actor. The only voice I really noticed being massively differnet in season 1 was Homer's. I can't spot much of a difference in the others. On the main subject of watching Season 1. I actually really like Season 1 and don't find it hard to watch at all. Although it debuted before I was born, it was one of the seasons I've watched the most because it was the first I got on DVD and it was one of the Seasons most repeated when I used to watch repeats on the show as a child. Its definitely less funny and not as good as the later seasons but there are a couple of episodes I really like: Crepes of Wrath, Telltale Head, Bart the General, Moaning Lisa and Some Enchanted Evening. The other episodes I find a bit more patchy in their quality with characters often behaving out of character. But the main thing I like about Season 1 is probably what most people dislike about it. It is that it so different to the rest of the Seasons. It has its own sort of charm, characters and animation style which slowly fade away in the next couple of seasons. A lot of the early characters get relegated to the background and for good reason. You can still ocasionally find merchandise for the simpsons written around the time of Season 1 and it is very easy to spot its age because of how much the show has changed.

Season 1 does have its quirky charms; it's neat to compare it to, say, Season 20 and see just how much the animation has evolved and changed over the span of just a couple of decades.

That's pretty much me I think. I think all those quirks and things all have its charm for me, I know I'm in the minority (which is fine) but season one is one of my favourites for those reasons really too, I also think the concepts and contrasts between episodes are quite underrated. If you think about the season and the different episodes they came up with some great angles there and covered pretty much every angle you could think of in regards to different stories and episodes

The characters had more fluid movements, such as Marge's hair moving as she walked, characters blinking and making more facial expressions, and so-on.

Yeah, I know people are quite touch and go with it, which is fair enough but I liked the mouth movements too lol, sure The Simpsons evolved as they went along to where they should have but there is something about that first season that's really good. I think the Babysitter bandit is underrated, I love the episode with Jacques, the Christmas episode I can never get bored of, I just love the whole season really as I think they really captured the dynamics in that and each episode had a different story that kinda introduced the show in some way or another

I thought the animation was great, eccentric and wild in a completely unique way.

Yeah, the story was good, I don't remember fully when I first ever watched this but I'm pretty sure it was a gripping episode too. Ms Botz Such a good character.

I can't recall, but what happened to Ms. Botz? I don't remember ever seeing her reappear on the show again, but I haven't watched S1 in a long time.
