Personally my favourite character is Blue-Haired Lawyer, not sure why but I've just always liked him. At times he can be a scheming shyster or an annoying interrupter of sentimental scenes with his declaring of copyright infringement, and then there yet still have been some instances where he'll help the Simpsons in court despite them not being able to afford him, such as in "The Ziff Who Came to Dinner", "Orange is the New Yellow" and "Barting Over". My least favourite character is Martin, that odd fat nerd who Lisa goes to school with. He doesn't seem to do much except show off, and he's really full of himself.
Of the main characters though, I've always loved Bart the best. He's a badass prankster most times, but I loved how in earlier seasons he had a kind side, such as when he went to the mall to buy a photo for Marge to make up for his shoplifting, and when he apologized to Lisa in "Bart Vs. Thanksgiving". He can be a jerk sometimes, but he usually seems to learn from his mistakes.

What did you think of Martin in the earlier episodes, when he hung out with Bart? He seemed to have a bit more of a personality to him back in seasons 1 and 2.
My favorite character I'm not too sure about. I do love Milhouse; he never fails to crack me up. Homer is great too, although he's fluctuated a lot over the years because of his major role in the show.
Least favorite is easy: Superintendent Chalmers. This is a character whom they tried to flesh out, and it just didn't work. He's not an interesting enough character and doesn't really have any memorable qualities other than shouting at Skinner. He also shows up far too often nowadays. He's always with Skinner, whose character now depends on Chalmers to function at all. There's also no reason he should be with Skinner so often. He's the superintendent; he should be overseeing EVERY school in the region. Optimally, Chalmers would be used every once in a while to show up and startle Skinner when Skinner does something questionable.

In earlier episodes I found Martin more tolerable; he was nerdy but not necessarily in a bad way, and he could be nice. Now he's just sort of an egghead who seems to serve as a punching bag in scenes with Nelson and his crew. Milhouse is great, always funny and he had this way of being cool when people least expected it of him. I felt bad for him when his parents got divorced, but things still seemed to work out for him eventually. And his line "everything's coming up Milhouse!" classic. I think Homer has gotten angrier and dumber in recent episodes, but he's still a lovable character. I loved how in episodes like "One Fish Two Fish Blowfish Blue Fish", he cared so much about the well-being of his kids and about spending his final moments with Marge. He's the type of character who isn't intellectual, but still intelligent when it really counts the most. I'm not a big fan of Chalmers, either. Though I found Ralph's "hi, Super Nintendo Clamers!" comment funny, Chalmers doesn't seem to do much and he can be too hard on Skinner for no apparent reason, and at times hard on Groundskeeper Willie, too.

I kinda seem to like the characters that people wouldn't expect really too. Jacques and Mr Bergstrom are favourites for me and I also really like Lenny, it's just his sarcasm and the fact that he always gets something in his eye is just one of those quirks for me. I even really like Dr Marvin Monroe from the shock therapy scene lol Honestly though, I do genuinely love so many characters I can't say I have a favourite as such I just love a whole lot of them. Least favourite, I'm not sure, it's probably a supporting character like Helen Lovejoy or something but even then she's alright cause she fits her role well and supports Reverend Lovejoy and she's great in that scene with Jacques and Marge where she describes herself as 'The gossipy wife of the minister' lol. I'll have to try have a think on this one and then get back to you, I'm thinking of characters like Terri & Sherri or something but even they play a good role in teasing Bart so I'llo have to have a think

My favourite characters are Skinner & Moe.
Seymour Skinner because he's trying to be a good man, do the right thing and live his life, but constantly takes abuse from Bart and his mother leaving him all pathetic. I really enjoy Skinner episodes because I find him hilarious, and generally his incompetence makes me feel sorry for him. I feel like he kinda gets screwed with his whole PTSD been abandoned for seemingly no reason - I felt that that was great for his character and gave him reasons for why he cares about being an authority figure. The whole Armin Tanzarian stuff was great aswell, despite being disliked by tons of people. It showed that he was just like Bart - someone who never played by the rules and who didn't try and do anything with his life, showing Bart that he too could grow out it and make something of his life. But again, that was dropped too. I feel like the writers are missing a lot with Seymour's character which could really help the show.
As for Moe, he's just so sad and grumpy all the time, I can really relate. Battling depression is hard and as I've got older, and been through a lot of stuff in life, I just get it. Life sucks, and he's stuck, trapped, he tries a few times to change his bar and make himself feel better, but nothing ever pans out. He is quickly forced back into his horrible life and becomes depressed again and again, makes me really feel for the guy.
I dunno if there is any character I really dislike. Lisa is really obnoxious in a lot of episodes, being a know-it-all and thinking she's superior to everyone else. But she is 8 though, and surrounded by people imperically dumber than she is, it must take it's toll. Marge is kinda annoying too when she just gets in the way of Homer's fun, but then again she is looking out for her family, so it makes sense.

I always imagine them turning out like Patty and Selma when they get older as karma for the way they treat Lisa

It always seems to me like they've both had hard lives, from Skinner's domineering mother and Vietnam days, to Moe desperately trying to find a true connection with another person. I always found it incredibly sad that one episode where on Valentine's Day he says, "they say that there's one match for every person somewhere in the world!" and then a female lookalike of him in Europe hangs herself at the same time. These characters always turn out to do very impressive things when nobody expects it of them though, and I think that with all they've had to overcome, it's shaped them into more understanding people beneath their grumpy appearances.

They're a good opposite character to Bart though which is why I don't overly dislike them if that makes sense. I'm probably trying to think of characters that don't have much use, Dewey maybe?

Dewey has always confused me; he can be funny but more often than not just seems disgruntled and angry, and to not really do much on the show. I think the reason they keep him on the show is because he appears in the intro and so he's sort of been established as an important minor character, but he really doesn't seem to do a whole lot and he doesn't seem to actually really like the students (then again neither does Miss Hoover).

That's what I was thinking about the intro. To be honest, I barely even remember him there much in the actual cartoon, like I don't really recall anything that stands out for me in regards to him. Miss Hoover seems a little more of a dominant character but yeah, there's also things like Millhouses dad, Apu's wife etc... all supporting characters kinda thing. It's good though cause like we were saying in one of the other threads they all have individual characters and that's probably why it's kinda hard to find a character that's a least favourite as such, which again I say as a good thing
