Why s the town of Springfield itself changing?

When I think of Springfield, it always reminds me of the brightly coloured pastel suburbs in Edward Scissorhands. The thing in earlier seasons that made Springfield stand out was that it was a dull backwater place, polluted by radiation and yet still quaint and special. But recently I've noticed that Springfield is beginning to adopt the look of a hipster paradise. Does anybody remember in the "D'oh! cial Network" when the family goes shopping, but instead of going to TrynSave, they go to every overhyped modern trendy store in sight, especially Mapple. And it all seemed so sterile and cold, with glass buildings and overpriced little candies and drinks. What I liked about Springfield originally was its character and its unique look. But I guess everything has to modernize eventually, even cartoon towns

Huh, I never thought of this before. You're right. The Simpson family's money seems to have increased exponentially as well in the later seasons. Ideally, if they were to use this more modern Springfield, they would make the family struggle to keep up with it, what with only Homer having a job in the family. But it is at least somewhat plausible, since towns change to keep up with the times. Springfield doesn't seem to have kept up its "America's crud bucket" reputation, either; it seems to be a pretty high-class place.

I've noticed that it looks a lot like California's touristy shopping areas in more recent seasons. Maybe this just has to do with modernity, since in reality it's true that things are getting taken over by these trendy malls and plaza stores. I found it odd, the road paved with cobblestones and everything, but I agree, modern Springfield could be used as a really good plot element in a story where the Simpsons can't afford it.

I also find the constant Apple references, the "Mapple" stores, to not really fit the traditional Simpsons, especially when Lisa becomes obsessed with her "MyPod". I had thought she'd be the type to speak out against the commercialism of it all or something, but instead she just wholly embraces the company. I do like that the modern episodes try to create new worlds for the Simpsons to experience, such as in "The Great Phatsby" and "The Wife Aquatic".

I've never thought of this before but you've got a point. Thinking about it after your post I can see completely where you're coming from, I'm going to keep that in mind now when watching things and see if I pick up on anything
