Before wikis, subreddits, tumblr and proboards, the best place to find information about the Simpsons online was on fan sites.
There are a few fansites still running among my favourites are Simpson Crazy and The Simpsons Archive. Unfortunately both are now very out of date. The latter has no detailed Episode Capsules past Season 13. Simpson Crazy has season reviews which end at Season 15 with an implied im going to continue updating these at the end of the piece, but more than ten years later it seems he's busy with other projects. The whole site looks like it hasn't been updated in five years and I think it was done for a few months recently.
I prefer these sites to the Wikis which seem to have replaced them for a couple of reasons. Firstly they are just easier and more pleasant to read, because Wikis are written by a lot of people the quality varies and some is just downright dull or confusing to read. Secondly the fan sites are more opinionated so you actually get to read the author's opinion on the episodes instead of a very neutral wiki summary. Finally the fan sites often have a much prettier layout, Simpson Crazy is just nice to look at and read and no adverts getting in the way. It's a very nice site to browse.
There are a probably a host of other Simpsons fan sites which I havent mentioned but which are you favourite fan sites? What do you like about them? Are there any brilliant fan sites which are now lost to the ages?

I'm going to have a look at these as I don't think I've seen them really. Yeah there does seem to be a lack of Simpsons websites really other than the official Fox one which is pretty much no good to people unless you're in the US as half the content isn't available to see. I do really like Simpsons websites for the reasons you mentioned also about the look and things like that too but I think people get kinda bored or tedious with the updates on them so usually just stop with all intention to do it again but never do if that makes sense haha, I think these kinda sites are best when they don't need too many updates, you know like if they are there for info etc.. I've just looked now at Simpsons crazy, 2012 was the last update yeah and Simpsons archive also seems quite minimal. I could do a really nice website for Simpsons but it is a case of that it's a lot of work, specially if it's something that needs updating and obviously paying for hosting costs too would need to be catered for as free hosting sites just ruin the websites with adverts popping up everywhere etc.. but if it's a site that's just nice to look at that once it's done it's done then that would be much easier as I think it is the constant updating that people tend to find hard to do over a long period of time, as well as of course the costs as you usually need to pay so much each month to keep it online and then a yearly cost too for the domain unless of course you use a free one which again just ruins the site. This forum here I completely designed everything from the header to the background to all the avatars you can choose with all the characters (Go to Profile > Edit profile > Use a forum avatar to see them) that it took me around 6 hours or so to do so a full website would be very time consuming but I do hear you in regards to this because there does seem to be lack of a good nice Simpsons website to be honest. Simpsons Crazy and Simpsons archive are great but they look very formal I think is the word I'm looking for, as opposed to cartoon and bright like The Simpsons are if that makes sense

Those avatars are brillintly done although you did misspell Milhouse. Do you remember fox's old Simpsons website? It was done in Flash. It was organised like filing cabinets, you opened up the cabinets and found files on a character and you'd get a little profile with a load of information about the character as well as some small Flash game. One of the games was that Convert the Heathens game from the episode Maude dies, and another involved shooting zombies ala Season 5's Treehouse of Horror. Ooooo I found a site with a link to Simpsons Fansites old and new. It was on NoHomers: www.nohomers.net/content/weblinks/As well as a whole page about defunct fan sites: www.nohomers.net/content/weblinks/themorgue/

Fixed the Milhouse Yeah I do vaguely remember the old Simpsons website in flash. I also remember when the movie came out they had these Simpsonize me which were really good, did you ever see them? I like the look of the Last Exit To Springfield site that they have there, that's how they should look I think That Cletus one in the morgue looks brilliant too, really good!! Apart from you can only see a background flash of it but you can tell that site would have been awesome!!

I can remember those Simpsonise me, but I cant think i ever tried it. A couple of years back you used to see adverts to cartoonise yourself all over the internet but I guess more modern stuff like Snapchat Filters makes those look obsolete and archaic now. I tried to look up that Cletus site on Archive.org unsurprisingly it didnt work but I did get an interesting glimpse of the site after Fox understandably shut it down for piracy.

Yeah, it looks like it was done by flash so probably looked like a Simpsons cartoon. Would have been cool to have seen that to be honest.
